Your concert was truly an exceptional. You managed to connect your audience with the greatness of our cultural past in such a profound and direct way. What you have achieved on the guitar is beyond what anyone has done. I cannot imagine listening to Scarlatti or Bach in any other way. The Schwertsik was wonderful to hear and the Bach was sublime. The Allemande brought tears to my eyes. As I’ve supplicated before, you must record the cello suites and publish editions (or make them available to me!). I was moved in so many ways and I am truly grateful to have been in that church last night because as always, two precious hours of listening to you is a powerful beacon for all of us in the battle for a more true, beautiful, and artistic world.
There were moments throughout your concert when memories of the enthusiasm, joy, and excitement I would feel as a young boy when listening to your early Latin American (Ponce, Diaz, Lauro, Sojo, etc…) record in Maracaibo returned to me. I experienced that again last night. I’ve had many great artists help me throughout my journey but none have matched the effect of one of your concerts.
I am also grateful for the lasting effect your concert will have on Max and Charlie. I wish you could have seen Max’s expression as you played through the Scarlatti Sonatas, how Charlie’s eyes lit up as they do when he scores a goal in soccer when you played Sevilla, and as they both dutifully checked off every song they would like to learn (a practice we often do when going to guitar concerts).
Thank you again, Eliot. Remember, if I can do anything more to push you into recording/publishing the cello suites please reach out.
Abrazos de tu amigo,
