Eliot Fisk continues his quest to take art music to schools, churches, senior citizen centers, and even prisons.

Music has a great role to play in the redemption of the modern soul. I think all the qualities that are demanded by even an elementary study of music are extremely useful in a democracy. A reasonable goal for art music would be to increase our share of the market from 1.5% to 5%. This would not only be a boon for young musicians but would improve the quality of life in the American Republic. Again I don't think we need more star performers so much as we need a sympathetic and broad-based group of people interested in music the way people are interested in other things of lesser intrinsic value.”Eliot Fisk, July 1998

Funcacion Eliot Fisk

Fundacion Eliot Fisk is currently dormant. In the past we have organized a course and competition at Easter time in Granada. The course and competition combined visits to the great cultural monuments of the city of Granada such as the Alhambra, Generalife, Albaizin, the houses of Federico Garcia Lorca and Manuel de Falla etc. We hope to re-start the Festival in the near future.

Ideally the Festival will expand to include a program of year round activities to:

1) Create paid performances for talented young musicians in unusual places (schools, churches, senior centers etc.)

2) Heighten cultural awareness in Andalucia in general and Granada in particular.

3) Integrate Fundacion activites with existing local institutions such as choirs, flamenco dancers and players etc.

Our goal is for our work to serve as a springboard to galvanize cultural activity in Granada and from Granada outwards in the world at large.

Guitar and Friends

Guitar and Friends is a student run outreach initiative based at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. We are slowly expanding our network of sites for student performances using unusual venues and interdisciplinary projects. Once again, the idea is to give students hands-on practical experience with all aspects of live musical performance. This means not only playing in unusual situations but also learning about the problems of organizing concerts. Essentially, we aim to give students a way to begin creating the economic basis for their future careers while they are still in school while at the same time participating in missionary work aimed at expanding the future audience for art music.
